Being open with your child and speaking to them about any and everything that you feel is appropriate. It is important to be a parent to your child, but it is equally important to be a friend. When your child isn't afraid of you they will be more open with you and won't be afraid to come to you with issues they may be having. Also, allow your child to make mistakes and be sure to let them know its okay to make mistakes, its important to make mistakes. Show confidence within yourself and be positive, even in the toughest of times. Children look up to their parents and learn so much from them, even when you don't realize it. "You reap what you sew". If you raise your child in a positve and confident lifestyle they grow up to be positive and confident individuals.

Cinfidence is contagious. If you are confident it will most likely pass onto your child. Encourage your child to engage in activities where there is natural ability, reward achievement, and introduce the child to activities where groth and potential are encouraged. Balance praise with realistic coaching.

Don't come to their rescue at all times by going to teachers, coaches, and other parents. Let them fail and learn from failure. Let them take pride in doing things for themselves.

At times children reflect what they see in their parents. Showing confidence in who you are and do will go a long way in starting your child's confidence in him or herself. Children need role models. be careful not to set too high of expectations as they are growing up that might set them up for failure. Encourage but don't lie to them about their abilities.
