Hi two1200s,

How to handle colleagues who feel threatened by your work ethic and experience that you may have, is never easy and there's never an exact response. My advice to you is to just have your communications with your colleagues, when necessary. Inform your employer about the situation so he can talk with those other employees. Your 39 years old and lets say that you are new in your career, maybe they're jealous of you and they haven't had the time to know you better. I will just stick with those friends in your job that are your friends. In addition, I will hold on to the relationship you have with your boss. Last, I will stick to my job. Take it from the voice of experience you can't expect everyone to be friends with you in your working place, especially if that colleague feels that you are taking over her assignments of the day. This is a very personal story that I am willing to share with you be cause you seem sincere, hey to tell you the truth I am sharing it with hundreds of friends through this sight... ha ha ha ha. September of last year I started working for this after school program as a Group Leader. Because I was knew in my career I kind of did things slow if I have to put it that way. In addition I may have done some minor mistakes that wouldn't cost me my job. However, this Group Aide that I was paired up with didn't see it that way. It was her second year working for this program and because I was knew she was kind of jealous that I was the one chosen to be the Group Leader. Especially when the year before she was the Group Leader, you know what I mean? Anyway, for every little thing I did some of what slow, she would say to me that she is stepping out for a few minutes. and she would take that excuse to report me. She would leave the class room for 45 minutes and I was the one left alone. And the policy was that no staff member was to be left alone with the children. Nevertheless, and to continue with this story. She couldn't handle how I did things, and she was the one who got me fired. My employers said that how it was because of my lack of experience as a Head Teacher but I know that it was because of Jamie that I was unfairly fired.
So, you see there are some colleagues you can never trust especially when they don't give you a chance.
In other things I am fortunate enough to be working now with great people who trust in my good judgment. I am a Home Teacher.

You might come across co-worker and employers that would take it into offense working with a young person because their lack of experience. However sometime we have to learn to listen to the advice that they give us precisely because we are young. If they are nice to give us their advice we should take it because its the only way we'll grow. Take it from me I am someone who has grown a lot in my workplace precisely because I took the time to listen.

Hope this works out.
