How do I live in my home without fear my abusive ex will ignore protection order and come back to hurt or even kill me? My ex was very abusive and a few times set on killing me. I filed charges and got a protection order however he was arrested and in custody for 12 hrs on 8-12 different charges he was released and a few hours later 19 warrants were issued for possession and distribution. He has vowed to hurt me badly or kill me and he has no respect for the law. I am scared to death here at my home that he will come. I don't know how to handle this I have never before been a weak person or fearful person this is all new to me . so far all I have done is pressed charges and got a protection order. The law basically told me I can't do anything until he hurts or kills me. Help please lost and scared. I got myself into this situation before, when i went out with a crazy guy from NJ. He put a knife on my neck when i wanted to end a 3 months relationship. He said if he cannot have me nobody can have me either. I had to clam him down and said whatever he wanted to hear, but in my mind I was planing how to get away from this situation. The restaining order doesn't do anything much, so you have to move out to somewhere else. You have to changed a phone number, address. Do not walk alone and look over your shoulder when you are outside. I know how hard it is , but you can do it. Honey,I will tell you to get yourself out of where you live. You also need to go to a shelter and talk to someone that can help you. Contact the Domestic Violence Hotline 800-621-HOPE.(4673). This response to your question was received in the wwuask email. Do you have family members to go visit out of state? I would leave. You are right the law will not help until you are DEAD. It is so sad. If you don't leave, you need an alarm system installed. We wonder how we get hooked up with these kind of people. We wonder how these people don't go to jail forever.
