If it was not a bone doctor that examined it there is a good chance they did not no what they were looking for, had it happen once and they told me the same thing and turns out it was broke so the best answer is see a good bone doctor.

Not a medical doctor. Why you may not have broken any bones in your hand you could have inflamed the tissues around that finger. Eventually you will be able to make a fist normally but as you get older the area may stiffen from time to time.
