There is a guy at wk that I have noticed for months now. Have caught him looking at me a few times. Asked him out today, but he says he's in a relationship. If that is true why was he staring at me?

I noticed him a few months ago. Only see him in cafeteria at wk, when I go down there to meet my friends for lunch. I have noticed him looking my way a few times. The last time was 2 days ago. We were practically staring at each other the whole lunch break off and on. When he saw me looking his way, he leaned back in his chair and hid behind guy sitting next to him.

We both always sit with our friends , so don't have much opportunity to talk to him. Saw him by himself so approached him. Asked him if he wasn't in a relationship if he'd like to have lunch sometime. He said he was. I said ok and went back to my friends. The day we both were looking @ each other people from his table were looking @ me and my friends were looking his way. Was trying to point him out. I am very confused. Is he interested and just nervous, because I asked in a crowded room? Or could he really be in a relationship? If so, why was he looking @ me?
