What are the rights of a citizen at birth?
As I pondered the root causes of violent, antisocial behavior on a global scale, I've hypothesized that the lack of (or absence of) a feeling of "belongingness" might be at the core of the problem. I believe that it might be possible to eradicate this phenomenon by establishing basic citizenship education, beginning at birth, where every newborn would be provided with a welcome message, a birth certificate, and the constitution of the country of birth. In the United States it should be assumed and expected that we all have the same and equal birth rights as citizens. As a country we should help everyone enjoy these rights equally, and education is the greatest equalizer. Our goal should not to have to try to be accepted but respect because of our equality.
