Are you someone who thinks they were abused or thinks they are being abused? Are you a parent who is wondering if spanking is abuse, etc. Clearly right off the top I can tell you that slapping, pushing and punching are definitely abuse. There's never any need, even in situations of discipline, to slap, push or punch your child, no matter how young or old they are or what they did.

Nothing, pushing and abusive words are just the first stages...you can figure out what the next few stages are... Only animals raise children that way, and people about 50 years ago.

If someone asked for an exact way to tell to see what is crossing the line, I would say if it is hard enough to make someone bleed or leaves a mark that last more then a very short amount of time it would fall under abuse. Of course this does not include acts that are intentionally done as abuse and in such a way not to leave tell tale slings. One also must keep in mind the reason they are doing it. Is it to teach a child a lesson or because they are mad and need a release?

I feel that children learn to communicate at an early age and their future actions are a reflection of what they have learned. It is important to teach children at an early age what is acceptable behavior. How would you want the child to respond to inappropriate behavior? Any type of discipline should be tempered with the thought, do we want to hurt the child or simply teach them some restraint in their be behavior. Any physical act which causes any undue pain to another individual or is demeaning in nature I feel is abusive.
