Why do some people feel that what they have (possessions) defines them vs who they are?

At a point in my life I was like that. Not something I am proud of but I must be honest with myself. For me it was a few things, insecurity, and the fact that I did not know who I truly was. I had no sense of self because I had others dictate my life for so long and when I finally broke away from them I needed something else to dictate my life and those things were my belongings. I hope this helps answer your question a little. It may not be the same for all but I am almost sure that people who have strong ties to their possessions have little sense of self or confidence. I believe that it reflects a lack of self confidence and that possessions will in the eyes of those around them give them that. A sign of insecurity. Answered by kidsfor...Age : 40 1 month ago Edit Delete
