It depends on the state you live in, I'm sure, but my kids' dad has been out of prison about a year and a half and he has had a job ever since. He actually got the job while he was still in work release. I'm sure though that it depends on the felonies that you have. I know theft, robbery, and violent crimes are obviously not so appealing to an employer, but there are those out there willing to give people a second chance. Don't give up! About the SSI thing, I also know a guy who had been out of the system for a few years and IS ON SSI...just go to your local state office that deals with SSI and maybe even public assistance could help you get some answers on how to go about filing for it if your state does allow it. Good Luck! Oh yeah, you can probably look up online you states dot gov site (.gov) and apply to see if you are eligible and they will either let you know right after online or they will send you info by mail a few days later to let know know the next step.
